The state Department of Environmental Conservation has imposed a mileage cap on vehicle patrols in the Adirondacks to ease current fiscal woes. But union leaders Wednesday warned the move will severely hamper law enforcement efforts.
A directive - outlining several cost-saving measures - has been sent out to all nine patrol regions in the state, said Col. Joseph Lynch, EnCon's assistant director of law enforcement.
Among the cuts is a cap on patrol mileage of 1,000 miles per month, per officer in Region 5, which includes Saratoga County and the Adirondacks.
