UNDERSTANDING MUST BE TAUGHT TO MUSLIMS ALSO.(MAIN)

Professor Khalid Mehtabdin, of the College of Saint Rose in Albany, writes in support of Diane Eck's call for an understanding of each other's value systems and religions in her book ``Encountering God'' (``Efforts must be made to understand each other,'' Times Union, Sept. 10).

He suggests ``this program be aired and telecast so non-Muslims all over the United States could understand the teachings of Islam.''

There are far more indications that this country's Muslims lack an understanding of Islam more than the ``non-Muslims.'' Neither Christianity nor Judaism refers to Muslims as infidels. Neither Christianity nor Judaism …
