NSW: Irish Australians accuse candidate of exploiting terror
Irish Australians have accused a Liberal Party candidate of exploiting fears of terrorismto boost his chances at the March 22 New South Wales election.
DAVID MCBRIDE, who is running for the eastern Sydney seat of Coogee, has told votershe fought terrorism in Northern Ireland.
Mr MCBRIDE's website says he joined the British Army after graduating from Oxford Universityand Sandhurst.
It also claims he was the only Australian to serve in the Queen's personal guard, theHousehold Cavalry.
But Australian Aid for Ireland says Mr MCBRIDE is trying to exploit Coogee voters'insecurities about terrorism after the Bali attacks.
