Fed: AVCC rejects new funding models for universities = 3
Australian Democrats leader Natasha Stott Despoja later welcomed the AVCC's rejectionof Dr Nelson's four proposed fee schemes.
"The minister's funding paper, Setting Firm Foundations, fails Dr Nelson's own testof having a mature and comprehensive debate about the future directions of higher education,"
Senator Stott Despoja said.
"The fee options remain trapped in simple-minded faith in markets as the great panacea.
"It's all about means not ends - the government has lost sight of achieving an equitable,diverse, high-quality university sector."
She said the government was confusing funding flexibility with funding adequacy.
