Fed: Business calls for energy reforms

Business has today accused the federal and state governments of failing to properly
engage in energy reform.

The Business Council of Australia has pinpointed problems including a lack of electricity
market competition, poor state interconnections and no uniform gas trading standards.

It criticised state governments for the way they extract rents.

Council president CAMPBELL ANDERSON says Victoria leads the way in energy reform but
gains in other states are patchy and not enjoyed by consumers.

Mr ANDERSON says the council wants concerted action from governments for a globally-competitive
energy sector.
